Edinburgh Sustainable Innovation Conference

A partner event with the Buchanan Institute. The purpose of the event is to redraft the rhetoric surrounding sustainability into a language that everyone can understand.

We (The Buchanan Institute) are proud to be hosting the Edinburgh Sustainable Innovation Conference (ESIC) - which will be held on Monday 20 February 2017. We aim to redraft the rhetoric surrounding sustainability into a language that everyone can understand. Our focus will be on empowering people to take action into their own hands, and to stimulate greater cooperation between public, private, and educational sectors to enact real change. We aim to turn the rhetoric into performance.

The premise

It is becoming increasingly clear that in order to maintain the health of our world, we must rethink our approach to business, the environment, and each other. We must find balance within our practices of resource management to meet the growing demand for solutions to our environmental problems. ESIC presents an opportunity for people in and around Edinburgh to discuss innovative methods of sustainability to meet the government's 2030 goals.

How can we achieve sustainability?

What image does the word sustainability conjure in you? Frantic recycling? Renewable energy? Conservation? It is much more than that. We aim to change to shift the focus away from the individual, government, or company, and onto the connections both within and between these groups. The concept of sustainability is too vast to tackle as a whole, because it is such a multifaceted issue that encompasses all areas of our lives. We have broken down the umbrella term into three areas where innovation and communication will be key.
