Colin Kay
Education consultant
Colin Kay was born in Nigeria and grew up in the Isle of Man. He read history at Cambridge before training as a teacher. Having taught in a range of secondary schools across the country he spent fifteen years as headteacher of a large comprehensive in Trowbridge in Wiltshire. In 2000 he added an MBA in Educational Leadership to his qualifications. Currently a self-employed education consultant he has undertaken projects for Wiltshire Council, Bath Spa University and the Diocese of Bristol Academies Trust. At the moment he is working on the opening of a new Church of England Secondary Free School in Swindon and writing fee school applications, as well as teaching on an MA module at Bath Spa.
As a headteacher he become deeply involved in community engagement in Trowbridge, something he has maintained since he retired as a head. He is Chair of the Trowbridge Community Area Partnership, Chair of the group trying to secure a new health, leisure and community centre for the town, and an executive member of the local Chamber of Commerce, having been President from 2013-15.
Colin is also a Fellow of the RSA and a trustee of Trowbridge Town Hall and of the national charity TOP UK, which runs self-help groups for those suffering from phobias or OCD. In his spare time he writes novels the first of which, ‘Fateful Gift’, was published in 2014.
