Dame Clare Tickell DBE
Chief Executive, Action for Children
As chief executive of Action for Children since January 2005, Dame Clare Tickell is responsible for one of the UK’s largest charities, which supports more than 250,000 children, young people and their families through around 650 projects in the UK.
Her previous role was as chief executive of Stonham Housing Association. She has also held many non-executive and advisory positions in the voluntary and housing sectors.
In July 2010, Clare was selected by the government to conduct a review of the Early Years Foundation Stage framework, which sets learning and welfare standards for the under-fives in England and Wales. The summary and recommendations from her review were published in March 2011. Clare currently sits on the Board of the Guinness Partnership, an England wide housing association, chairs the Community, Voluntary and Local Services Honours Committee and is a member of the main Honours Committee.
Clare also chairs the Help the Hospices Commission looking into the Future of End of Life Care which publishes its final report late in 2013. Clare lives in West London, with her husband, an art director. She has two sons, 24 and 22.
