Sam Friedman

Sam Friedman is Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at the London School of Economics. His research focuses in particular on the cultural dimensions of contemporary class division, and his recent book, The Class Ceiling: Why It Pays to be Privileged, examines social mobility into Britain’s higher professional and managerial occupations. He has also published Social Class in the 21st Century and Comedy and Distinction, as well as numerous articles on class and social mobility. Outside of academia he also works as a Commissioner for the UK Government’s Social Mobility Commission.
