Vanessa Ogden

Vanessa Ogden is Head teacher of Mulberry School for Girls. The school is a high achieving, over-subscribed and very successful girls’ comprehensive school in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets for pupils aged 11 - 18. The aim is to develop ‘Confidence, Creativity, Leadership and a Love of Learning’ with the young women at Mulberry and to enable the students to lead successful, happy and fulfilled lives, making a contribution to their own community and wider society. Mulberry completed a successful Ofsted inspection in July 2010, was judged to be an ‘Outstanding School’.

Vanessa has recently completed an Education Doctorate at the Institute of Education specialising in urban leadership.  Her areas of interest in education are policy and schooling in areas of urban challenge.  Vanessa's teaching career has spanned two decades of practice in inner-city schools across London and involved significant work in school improvement and school effectiveness.
Vanessa is a trustee of Teach First and has been awarded the status of a National Leader in Education by the National College. Vanessa is also former Chair of the Tower Hamlets Headteachers’ Group and is a visiting fellow at the Institute of Education. Vanessa was the President of the Association of Maintained Girls Schools. Vanessa won the Women of the Future Inspirational Educator Award in 2009.

Vanessa has published academic and professional writing in education. This includes the publication ‘Lost in Transit: Attainment Deficit in Pupil Transition from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3’ and ‘Policy Impact and Policy Process in Transforming Urban Schools: A Single School Case Study of the London Challenge’.
