RSA Keynote

For decades, liberal democracy has been extolled as the best system of governance available to us. But in a rapidly changing cultural landscape, is that any longer the case?

Democracy, in crisis across the West, must prove itself.

How can East and West learn ‘best practice’ from each other in order to survive the unique challenges of the 21st century? Can we create a new system of “intelligent governance” to devolve power and meaningfully engage citizens in a multi-polar world where no single power dominates and in which societies themselves are becoming increasingly diverse?

Speakers: Nicolas Berggruen, president and chairman, the Nicolas Berggruen Institute and Nathan Gardels, editor, New Perspectives Quarterly.

Chair: Dr Robin Niblett, director, Chatham House
