Democracies are in decline. Populists are on the march. How can liberal democracies fend off the populist challenge?

This is more relevant in recent weeks than in decades. We have seen the middle ground vacated by the two major parties and those who have attempted to position themselves still serve to alienate others. It may well be that 'refugees' from the two parties need to coalesce to form a new political structure. The Change UK/TIG grouping fell apart, I believe, for want of grass root membership, control coming from too small a group without a base structure to support it.
