Please join us for a presentation by Andrew Thin, Chairman, Scottish Land Commission, followed by a Q&A/debate about the work of the Commission and its potential impact on both urban and rural Scotland.
This event, being run jointly by the James Hutton Institute and RSA - via its MCICH Network - is open to Fellows of the RSA, staff and board members of the James Hutton Institute, and to all those interested in the Commission's work from private, public, and third sector perspectives.
The Commission's remit is as much about urban as rural Scotland, and so should be also of interest to professional advisers such as solicitors, urban planners, and chartered accountants.
Whilst, in common with similar recent past RSA events in Edinburgh and Melrose, Andrew Thin, Chairman of Scottish Canals and the SLC, will focus broadly on SLC policy and culture change. This notwithstanding, it is anticipated he will also refer to current work. The research body involved is shown in brackets below:
Land Value Capture – a review of historic experience in the UK and elsewhere (Heriot Watt University)
Land Value Taxation – a review of international experience and potential approaches (University of Reading)
Scale and Concentration of Land Ownership – a review of international practice in managing scale and concentration of land ownership (UHI and University of Aberdeen)
Alternative Models for New Entrants to Agriculture – a review of new or amended models of joint venture to increase access to land for farming (James Hutton Institute)
Initial reports on these are due to be published from April onwards, to inform the Scottish Land Commission’s wider consideration of these issues.
This event will take place at the James Hutton Institute, Craigiebuckler, Aberdeen, with registration at 5:00pm and a running time of 5:15pm to 7:00pm. Parking spaces are also available at the James Hutton Institute. The RSA is most grateful to the James Hutton Institute for its support of this event.
If you have any access requirements or require any reasonable adjustments, please let the team know: [email protected].
Location: James Hutton Institute, Craigiebuckler, Aberdeen, AB15 8QH
