  • Communities
  • Community engagement
  • Social productivity

Ten years on from the first RSA Coffeehouse Challenge, we are delighted to refresh this simple approach to effectively bring people in the boroughs of Manchester together to address and tackle the challenges we face as a community.

We believe it’s all about starting where you live. Join us for a cuppa and let’s see how we can make a difference, together, in Prestwich and beyond.

In the spirit of collaboration, this event brings together the RSA and Collaborate Out Loud, organisations which both started from innovative ideas in coffeehouses hundreds of years apart. Both organisations have a common interest in supporting communities to come together around what matters.

As this Coffeehouse Challenge is taking place during Street Wisdom’s World Wide Wander, we will incorporate a short wander and taster of the Street Wisdom approach to get a feel for the local area.

What is a Coffeehouse Challenge?

  • A group of local people interested in coming together from all parts of the community
  • A get together at a local coffee shop (preferably one with a social purpose) to explore a challenge that face
  • An opportunity to inspire each other to take collective action for the benefit of the local community
  • It lasts around two hours and is hosted by either an RSA Fellow or someone who lives locally
  • Utilising the Collaborate Out Loud approach to create surprising, simple, and social spaces for public service innovation

What to expect at a Coffeehouse Challenge event

  • The opportunity to meet and connect with people where you live
  • A fun, informal, and action-oriented approach that leads to change that matters
  • An environment to try out ideas, spread the ones that work, and learn from those that don’t
  • The chance to come together in the spaces between the formal structures and organisations that serve our community to work with them and to influence their approach.

Cup of Change

We’re encouraging people, Fellows and non-Fellows alike, to step forward and ask the questions what change do we want to see? and how can we achieve it? over a cuppa at their local coffee shop or cafe:

Find out more and help drive the #cupofchange notion forward.
