Newcastle Encounter meets on the third Wednesday of every month. In September we will be focusing on the homelessness charity, Emmaus.
This session, led by Don Pinchbeck FRSA and Sue Wilson FRSA, will be an exploration of the future of charities via social enterprise, covering social return on investment. It will discuss RSA MAK/FabLab projects, which are being explored by some Emmaus Communities, as well as the RSA Transitions project and how that can link in too.
Transitions is about training offenders inside prison to make artefacts and then continuing their training, coupled with work, after release. The intention is to prevent re-offending and Transitions is intended to be a social enterprise.
This matches the RSA Whole Person Recovery work and discussions that took place between the RSA and Emmaus at one stage, given that Emmaus provides accommodation and a continuance of a move back into the world of work.
Emmaus South Shields is a living, working example which has been extensively supported and managed by RSA Fellows in the North East.
Join us to also connect with local Fellows, discuss ideas, and find out more about the RSA and Fellow-led projects. You are also welcome to join us for a meal afterwards at a local venue.
