For this year's International Kindness Day on 13 November, the Museum of Human Kindness exhibition is opening its doors to RSA Fellows and friends for a special evening of art, stories and discussions on random acts of kindness.
The museum is a creative initiative to counter the rise in polarising narratives seen and heard in our media space. While the war of words in public discourse has become a familiar feature to test the strength of our social fabric, our everyday experience with strangers, in comparison, for many is characterised by goodwill, civility and acts of kindness. The museum hopes to celebrate our everyday social experiences by creating an environment using stories and art to encourage people to tap into the emotional world of others, and spark conversations on empathy and compassion.
The exhibition features inspiring stories contributed by members of the public on kind acts that they were shown by complete strangers, and 12 art pieces by local artists who each chose a specific story to creatively respond to. The showcased artists range from current art students to professional creatives whose practices vary from natural dye painting to textile work, screen printing, graffiti and sculpting.
This evening event is an after-work drop-in:
- Arrive between 17:00-17:45
- Discussion and networking between 17:45-18:30
The exhibition is open from 13 November through to 23 November (closed Sunday and Monday) at Anteros Arts Foundation and is free to attend.
