This event has been postponed. Keep an eye out for further details in due course. The Environment debate involves two significant aspects within the artworld: the one argument is of material use, the other is of artistic responsibility. The material usage debate involves the massive carbon footprint the entire art community are involved in; the air miles taken by visitors to museums, the art fairs being taken up and down across the world, the big budget and big resource exhibitions. The artistic responsibility debate involves the very tricky question: should artists be the moral voice of society?
Join Kate Rolfe from The Revels Office, an organisation specialising in cultural strategy and events, as well as Wayne Binitie, a PhD student at the RCA and artist who works with ice in sculptures for such organisations as The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) ice-core laboratory. Both guests will be in a conversation facilitated by artist Degard FRSA.
'ART with…' is a mini-series of talks curated by artist Degard FRSA from the Royal College of Art for Rawthmells Coffeehouse at the RSA. The series explores the crossover between the arts and other disciplines.
In this, the sixth event in the series, Katie Rolfe, Wayne Binitie and Degard will discuss the highly emotive and worrying conversations about how we can assist in climate control action whilst holding the integrity of art in the 21st century.
In a ‘Parkinson style’ conversation with Degard FRSA, the speakers will discuss the value of art and the environment in schools and universities, in galleries, museums and the press.
If you fancy something to eat before or after the event, or a drink to enjoy whilst you listen, Rawthmells Coffeehouse (in RSA House) is open from 8:30am to 9pm and serves coffee, cocktails and food all day, with profits supporting the RSA’s social change programmes.
