Following links through RSA Oxford, a small group of Fellows have started what promises to be a major project in Thame and are looking for additional local Fellows to support them, plus a broader team of specialists and volunteers based in or with an interest in Thame.
The RSA Thame Group has been appointed as consultants (on an honorary basis) to the Thame Town Council to help prepare a ‘Green Living Plan for Thame’, which is a recommendation of the Thame Neighbourhood Plan.
Thame was one of the first to bring in a Neighbourhood Plan under the new rules in response to housing pressures; it was endorsed in 2013 by a large majority of the town’s residents and has received much critical approval. Its fuller implementation is being overseen by the Council’s Continuity Committee, with whom the RSA group is working via the Committee’s Green Living Plan Working Group. As such, the RSA Thame Group is acting independently but in close liaison with the working group and relevant councillors and town clerk.
The Green Living Plan has five major focus areas, represented by colour codes. These are:
- Green – footpaths, green areas and cycleways (linking to a larger transport plan for the town)
- Blue – water flows (River Thame and tributaries) and drainage
- Red – energy capture and management
- Brown – waste management and recycling
- White – environment and air quality
This promises to be an exciting and ground-breaking project which might also act as a template for other similar communities.
If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Charles Boundy FRSA, who heads up the group: [email protected]
