Steve Acklam FRSA highlights the work of the charity Edlumino, which he heard of through their CEO Rory Fox.
“The thing that struck me immediately and particularly forcefully was the concurrence of what the organisation was seeking to deliver with the mission of the RSA to enrich society through ideas and action. Regrettably I am unable to offer the skill set they are looking for at this stage, but I have agreed to highlight the amazing work they are doing and ask that anyone who feels able to help contacts them directly."
Edlumino is a small Cambridge-based charity with a vision to change the way education within international aid is done. They are setting up in Iraq at the moment, and have invitations to get involved in Lebanon, Jordan and in Nigeria. They have limited resources, albeit one philanthropist making modestly serious donations. They will probably turn over about £100k this year.
They are looking for volunteer financial experts who are passionate about education, and are interested in educational aid and how it could be done better internationally. In the short term they seek such experts in the Cambridge and Essex area who would be interested in building an informal relationship with the organisation.
Edlumino has featured in the national press and beyond over the last year covering their work with children. You can find out more about Edlumino and their work on their website, and keep up to date with developments in their project via their blog.
