Growing Compassionate Communities seeks to grow communities that are compassionate and that seek to include groups on the margins of the community by becoming sensitive to their needs and journey.

It is a relatively new charity based in Dorset but with a national reach. The primary focus is to work towards inclusion of all diverse groups and people. The vision of the charity trustees is to grow inclusive communities which are hidden disability friendly and which reach out to the socially excluded and explore ways to reintegrate these groups and people back into community life. Another key focus is to discover ways to grow hope in communities.

Two recent projects have sought to achieve these aims:

  • A hidden disabilities scheme that was introduced into local communities.
  • A memorial tree and plaque scheme in response to the significant grief in communities and families following the pandemic.
