Award-winning art collective Jason Bruges Studio is creating a major new art installation for Hull UK City of Culture 2017.
Jason Bruges FRSA has become internationally renowned for producing innovative installations and interventions, and has been at the forefront of creating interactive spaces that sit between the world of architecture, site specific installation art, and interaction design.
His new installation, Where Do We Go from Here? is a site-specific installation that features colossal structures over 6 metres high that see plinths topped with over 20 large re-purposed industrial robot arms, each fitted with light sources, mirrors, prisms, and directional speakers in a choreographed interplay, accompanied by specially commissioned soundscapes.
Where Do We Go from Here? harks back to Hull's heritage as the leading centre for navigation in Europe, and aims to start a conversation on the role of art, technology, and culture in society. Using the interplay between light, architecture, and visitors, the piece will guide people through the city's night-time streets, and enable people to (re)discover their urban environment.
The installation will be open 1 December 2017 to 7 January 2018. It is supported by Arts Council England and Spirit of 2012.
