The trustees will act as a guardian of purpose, ensuring the museum makes strategic decisions that are in the best interest of the community, the museum’s vision, and brand positioning.

Opened in 1997, the Thackray Medical Museum (TMM) was established to present a history of medicine with an emphasis on the social and political influences, and the commercial pressures which spurred technical developments. The museum also aimed to give visitors an understanding of the impact of medical techniques upon daily life.

As the museum undergoes a major capital redevelopment and a brand repositioning, it is crucial that TMM is guided by a Board that understands both our vision and the need to remain relevant and innovative.

In doing so, the Board will be vital in leading and managing change to establish the museum as a leading institution in the 21st century. TMM is therefore recruiting trustees to join its Board as nonexecutive directors.

This is an unpaid, voluntary position, helping to provide governance of one of the region’s most important independent museums.

TMM is accepting applications for this position in writing. However, they are very happy to discuss it informally in advance with you.

If you would like to arrange a visit to the museum, to meet its CEO, Nat Edwards, or to find out more about their long term plans, please email [email protected] or phone 0113 205 6528.
