The UK’s first ever Cohesion Hackathon

Just 48 hours to change the world...well, Barking and Dagenham! On 30 September and 1 October you are invited to take part in the UK’s first ever Cohesion Hackathon, organised by RSA Fellow Phillippa Banister.

As an RSA Fellow do you ever feel you’re not using your talent and creativity to really benefit society? The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham invites you to participate in the UK’s first ever Cohesion Hackathon that they are hosting in partnership with their local Digilab. 

The Borough are inviting a whole range of people to take part in a weekend like no other, joining forces with residents, businesses and community groups to tackle some of the most important challenges facing Barking and Dagenham today.

Over the weekend of 30 September-1 October, teams will work against the clock to develop digital and non-digital solutions that aim to tackle complex challenges around cohesion.

Solutions might focus on improving relations between the community and police, bringing inter-generational communities together, encouraging the reporting of disability hate crime or challenging perceptions of public safety.

As one of London’s poorest boroughs with many challenges around community cohesion, Barking and Dagenham want to take a new approach, bringing together a whole range of voices to develop, design and test ideas - tackling problems that really matter to people.

The project team are looking to create multi-disciplinary teams made up of local residents as well as people interested and passionate about community cohesion and design from across London.
