Independent Review launches final large-scale survey of members with Ipsos MORI

Press release

  • Institutional reform

As the Independent Review enters the final month of evidence gathering, it is launching a large-scale survey today. This survey will influence the Review’s recommendations for the future of the Police Federation. Filling in the survey takes only ten minutes or so. It is a quick and simple way for all individual Police Federation members to have their say about the future of their staff association.

The survey has been designed by the Review in conjunction with the internationally respected research firm, Ipsos MORI. It builds on the evidence that the Review has gathered through its evidence sessions, regional consultations, online consultation, and initial snapshot survey that was launched in July. It is a once in a generation opportunity for members to have their say on the future direction of the Police Federation.

The deadline for responses to the survey is 20 September . The link to the survey will be distributed throughout the Police Federation. If you are a representative please forward on to all members for whom you have contacts and encourage them to respond. The survey is absolutely confidential, independent and only aggregated results will be used.

Members’ attitudes and expectations in connection with the following issues are investigated in the survey:

  • The external impact of the Police Federation

  • How the Police Federation meets members’ needs in the workplace

  • How effectively the Police Federation at all levels represents members

  • Any changes to the Police Federation that members may wish to see

Sir David Normington, Chairman of the Independent Review Panel, said:

“We have already heard from thousands of members, dozens of experts and stakeholders, and hundreds of representatives at all levels of the Police Federation. We have almost completed our regional tour. What we really want to do now is get an authoritative sense of what members think about the challenges that the Police Federation faces. That’s why we’ve asked the globally respected research company, Ipsos MORI, to organise this survey on our behalf.

“This is an important moment for the Review and an enormous opportunity for all Police Federation members to have their say. It will just take ten minutes or so of their time but this survey will have a big impact on our thinking as we begin to make our recommendations for the future of the Police Federation. I would encourage all to participate – it’s a once in a generation opportunity.”
