As a Fellow of the RSA, Josie Hinton was also Chair of a small charity in Westminster. It was a rewarding but at times lonely experience. Josie is now working on a programme that supports Chairs and Vice-Chairs to undertake their role effectively.

The Beacon Programme ensures that Chairs and Vice-Chairs have the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas, provides resources to support them in their role and opportunities to hear the views of sector experts.

It’s completely free to join the programme, which consists of webinars, online written resources and low-cost workshops. If you are a Chair or Vice-Chair of a small charity (with an annual income of under £1 million) please have a look at the programme here. Alternatively if you know someone who is, please spread the word by using the hashtag #BeaconProgramme on Twitter.

Don’t miss their first workshops in the North – Being an Effective Chair

Join Josie and the team for the first Beacon workshop which aims to provide you with practical guidance and tools to help you be more effective in your role. The workshop has been developed with the complexities of chairing a smaller organisation in mind; such as operating with limited resources and individuals often having both operational and governance roles. You will have the opportunity to share learning with Chairs of other smaller organisations.
