The RSA Pupil Design Awards is a free, national, challenge-based project for secondary schools, established in 2014 by the RSA and the Comino Foundation.

This evaluation was undertaken to understand the impact of the RSA’s Pupil Design Awards (PDAs) around the following outcomes:

  1. Pupils’ creative self-efficacy.
  2. Pupils’ awareness of real-world issues facing them and their communities.
  3. Pupils’ design capabilities.

And to understand what factors are critical to support teachers to complete the project.

To test our theory of change and understand how to best achieve our outcomes and deliver impact, we developed an evaluation framework of activity that included collecting data through surveys completed by pupils, interviews and focus groups with both pupils and teachers, and reports from mentor workshops in schools.

This report summarises our process and findings.
