Schools within the RSA Family of Academies have bucked the national trend by securing significant increases in the proportion of pupils securing 5 good grades at GCSE. This year’s provisional results indicate that overall approximately 58 percent of pupils in Arrow Vale RSA Academy, Lilian Baylis, RSA Academy, and Whitley Academy achieved 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C including English and Maths, compared with 50 percent of pupils in the same schools last year. This is in line with the national average for 2011 of 58 percent of pupils achieving 5+ GCSEs at grades A*-C including English and Maths.

Given the starting points of many of the pupils sitting exams within the Academies, these results represent a significant achievement on which head teachers, teachers and pupils at the schools concerned are warmly congratulated.

Public consultation starts this week for a fifth school, Ipsley CE Middle School in Redditch, to join the RSA Family of Academies in January 2013. Ipsley is one of the feeder schools for Arrow Vale RSA Academy, and we hope that by joining the Family Ipsley pupils will benefit from closer links with Arrow Vale as well as other schools within the RSA Family.

This school year, RSA Academies will be introducing a regular email bulletin for Fellows who are interested in hearing about the RSA Family of Academies and opportunities to get involved in projects with the schools. To sign up for the newsletter, email the education team
