The Great Room re-opens!

The RSA's Great Room is once again open. After a tireless seven-month effort to transform the House into a 21st Century hub, we held an opening ceremony attended by Chair of the RSA, Luke Johnson, RSA Trustees and Staff, Fellows and the design and contractor team.

So, what’s changed? In the reception, original flooring has been restored revealing beautiful mosaics, honouring the RSA's remarkable architectural heritage. The Great Room itself is more impressive than ever: a flexible, multi-purpose space with outstanding technology that will allow for real-time video links with audiences across the world.

Architect Matthew Lloyd and the team behind the refurbishment celebrated, as work on the building finished on time and on budget.

Some of the first people to see the new spaces were a group of 17 students from the RSA Whitley Academy. The students were given a guided tour of the building, and eagerly road-tested new technology in the shape of a giant multi-touch screen in the reception. They also attended an evening lecture with Shadow Education Secretary, Stephen Twigg MP in the refurbished Great Room.

Come and see how things have changed by attending one of our public events, and look out for more details of a week of activities to showcase the new facilities in September. All the spaces are also available for private hire for events and weddings, with all profits benefiting the RSA's charitable work: for more details, contact our House team to discuss your needs.
